WILLEM GALLE

CHAIRMAN

Willem enjoys a career in digital technology innovation in global travel and logistics. Willem founded Blueforest Environmental Development, in 2012 to be active in distressed land reuse projects and greenhouse development in New York, Ohio, Ontario and the Netherlands. He is also active as an advisor and board member of startup technology companies in the US and Canada. Willem has Bachelor degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration. He is a citizen of the Netherlands and lives in Waterloo, ON.


SUSAN VAN DE MERWE

SR. ASSOCIATE // ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT MANAGER    

Susan has always had an interest in land development projects that focus on improving the local environment whether it is through site remediation work or the promotion of local food. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and Psychology from the University of Waterloo (UW) where she focused on environmental assessment, sustainability initiatives and waste management practice. In addition, Susan earned a Master's degree in Environmental Studies from UW. Susan has been with Blueforest since it was founded in 2012 and is responsible for land identification, property assessments, project strategy and management.

JOHAN VAN LEEUWEN

PRINCIPAL

Johan is an engineer in water treatment and soil remediation with a passion for developing sustainable low tech, high design concepts. Johan specializes in microbial and geochemical processes that require little energy input and are low maintenance. He works as a project leader for Dutch Railways (SBNS) and is a researcher at Utrecht University, where he performs laboratory experiments on fundamental questions and translates these into sustainable applications. Johan has won several awards for his sustainable in-situ soil remediation technology (SISSR) and is currently working on even more extensive ways to manage superfund sites.


Sarah VAN DE MERWE

SR. ASSOCIATE // EnvironmenTAL PROJECT MANAGER

Sarah received a Bachelor's of Environmental Studies and Psychology from the University of Waterloo. She went on to receive a Master's in Environmental Studies from Waterloo with emphasis on sustainable waste management practices. Sarah joined  Blueforest shortly after its inception in 2012. As a member of the Blueforest team, she is responsible for project management when it comes to research and land development work.
